The iPhone 17 is Coming: Apple’s Next Big Thing

Apple fans, get ready! The iPhone 17 is set to debut on 9 September 2025, boasting a slimmer design, exciting new features, and AI-powered enhancements. Here’s a look at the latest rumours, design updates, and key features.

iPhone 17 Air: Ultra-Slim Design

Apple may retire the “Plus” model in favour of the ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air. Rumoured to measure just 5.5mm thick, it promises a lightweight yet stylish option for users who prefer portability.

To achieve this slimness, the iPhone 17 Air may feature:

  • A single wide camera

  • One speaker

  • No physical SIM card tray

Design & Build: Aluminium Returns

Apple could bring back aluminium frames for the Pro models, improving heat dissipation and unifying the design across the lineup.

Vapour chamber cooling might also make its debut, enhancing thermal management—possibly exclusive to the Pro Max

Cameras: Horizontal Bar & Upgrades

The iPhone 17 may replace the square camera bump with a horizontal camera bar, spreading lenses across the top of the device.

Camera highlights include:

  • Pro models: 48MP telephoto lens with up to 8x optical zoom

  • 24MP front camera for sharper selfies

  • Pro-only features: new Pro camera app, Camera Control button, anti-reflective display, and potential 8K video support

MagSafe, Display & Wireless Charging

Changes to the rear include a slightly lower Apple logo and a redesigned MagSafe ring.

Rumours also suggest:

  • Faster 50W Qi2 wireless charging for iPhone 17

  • ProMotion (120Hz) and Always-On display extended to non-Pro models

Performance: A19 Chipset, RAM & Connectivity

 

  • Base iPhone 17: A18 chip

  • iPhone 17 Air: Standard A19 chip

  • iPhone 17 Pro: A19 Pro chip

  • All models: 12GB RAM

Apple may also introduce its Proxmia Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip, and the Air model could include the C1 modem, optimised for power efficiency but lacking mmWave 5G.

Colours & Pricing

 

  • iPhone 17: black, silver, blue, green, purple

  • iPhone 17 Air: black, silver, light gold, light blue

  • iPhone 17 Pro: white, grey, black, dark blue, orange

US tariffs could push Pro, Pro Max, and Air prices up by around US$50 (~S$65), while the base model remains unchanged.

Launch, Pre-Order & Availability

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 on 9 September 2025, with pre-orders starting 12 September and retail availability on 19 September.
