Apple has debuted its first in-house C1 modem in the iPhone 16E, marking a significant shift in modem technology. While already touted as the most power-efficient modem ever in an iPhone, Apple has even bigger plans—integrating future modems directly into its A-series chips by 2028 at the earliest.
This move would enhance power efficiency, free up space for a bigger battery, and reduce production costs. Apple is actively developing the C2 modem for next year and the C3 modem for 2027, with ambitions to surpass Qualcomm’s modem technology. Future versions could also introduce cellular connectivity for MacBooks.
